Thanks for the info Loud Mouse. When I said that I have the original muffler, it is a single pipe with the muffler attached. I assumed that when this was removed, the other pipe stayed on the bike with a 3rd straight pipe added in its place. Is this correct or do I not have the correct pieces to return to stock. Sorry I am unable to add a pic of the muffler/pipe at this time.

Thanks!
Paul

In your case the right WILL have the welded on Guppy.
The left WILL have 5 screw mounts for the leg shields. ........................lm

So what exactly is a Guppy muffler? I know what the stock muffler looks like, but I've never heard of a Guppy. Are you also saying the CL72/CL77 pipes are a different length and are their mufflers different?

That part has several names.
Your Guppy is welded on.
The early CL77 came with a removable Guppy same as the late CL72. (late 1964)
The CL72 left side pipe starts a HARD TURN right at the exhaust hole.
Compare the 2 Left Side pipes and you will see a difference in the bend. ..................lm

LM, I'm looking at the CL72 parts diagram at CMS. I think what you're talking about is called a diffuser (part #9). It's not the 2 into 1 slip on muffler, but rather a baffle inside the pipes. Is that close to right?

I think what I'm talking about HONDA refers to as a SILENCER #1. ..........................lm

Ed,

You've got a new dance partner. "revlover" isn't the original poster.
