Depending on what you find inside it can either be the cost of some new gaskets and seals or it could be much worse.....

My current rebuild was of a basically FUBAR engine and I'll give you a rundown of what it cost me. A lot of the parts came from classic Honda restoration and some from eBay.

Gasket set. $30
Seal set. $40
Wiseco piston kits. $270
Cylinder boring. $66
Used head. $60
Used crank. $95
New cam bearings. $28
Carb kits. $30

So those are kind of the basics. My clutch and trans were in good shape so it will all depend on what yours looks like when you open it up!

Thanks man! Definitely good to know! I'm hoping that since I have two CL engines, that will help cut down the price a little more as well. How long did your rebuild take?

Start to finish the motor probably took me 4 months but I was only able to spend a few hours a couple nights a week on it. I haven't had a chance to fire it yet as I'm still working on getting the frame painted! (Eventually I'll get a resto thread started).

This is the first 305 I have fully rebuilt so a lot of time was spent on here learning the ins and outs of them. And I appreciate everyone on here who has helped me out!!!

The actual taking apart and putting back together actually could be done in a weekend no problem. Its cleaning parts and sourcing new parts that can take some time.

Yeah and that's why I haven't dove into it yet, simply because with being a full time student as well as having a full time job, I want to make sure I'm not pressed for time which could lead to silly mistakes ect. Feeling much better about it and can't wait to get greasy! Haha, thanks again for the info FS!

So, I'm currently working on a parts list excluding the internal engine components I may need since I still havent had the time I want to open it up. :( There is one part that I cannot identify, it looks like a shock absorber attached to the engine and frame. What the hell is this thing called?? See pic...
