carb/head photosHere's a photo with the tank off.
Wow... was I surprised when I took the tank off. It was much rustier than I thought. When this bike last had any gas in it (2002) we only used 100LL airplane fuel and were very careful to flush it properly. It has some light scale and a lot of surface rust. This opens up the old debate on what is the best thing to do with this tank. I've had bad luck with Kreeme before so this time I'm going to try one of the water based removers (evaporust). I'm going to soak it this weekend and see what I get. I'm sure it will de-rust it, but what's going to happen if I try to use it without a coating. Any ideas out there?
Re: carb/head photosWell darn!
The rubbers do look correct for sure. Any chance to have a look at the front mounts on the frame and the tank. Also a pic of the top front with the tank mounted?. ...........lm
tankOK kids... Here's some photos of the tank and the frame rubber mounts. Doesn't look like anyone has messed around with the tank brackets. Can't tell for sure without another one to look at.
go HERE: http://dashplaque.net/CL77_tank I've had the tank soaking in Evaporust water based rust remover for about 12 hours now. I'm impressed at how well this stuff works. My only worry is the whether to use a sealant like Kreeme after the rust is gone or just keep the tank as full as possible with gas from now on. Any ideas?
