Can someone offer any tips on installing tank pads on a CL77?

Which would be the better end to start with? Narrow end or wide end. Would liquid soap ease the installation process?

Would warming the pads make them easier to install?

Any help would be appreciated.

When restoring these, I bead-blast them first to remove the dirt and glaze, then apply ArmorAll liberally to the front and rear. This restores the original black sheen and also lubricates the material for easier installation. It doesn't seem to matter which end you start from, but warming them with a hair dryer definitely helps a lot. The same treatment applies to the steering damper boot. For those, you may even need to immerse them in very hot water first to avoid tearing.

DON'T USE ARMOUR ALL!!!!!
Can't tell you how many tires it dryrotted and how many vynal interiors it cracked.
Use a sillicon based lubricant or maguires tire shine if anything.

Never cared for Armor All myself. May try the Mcguire's before breaking out the Dawn.

Gary,

I just cleaned mine up with soap and water, started on the fat end and worked it around the tank to the pointed corner and slipped it over. It took me abot 10 mins to do both sides. I will say that my pads were pretty pliable before I started though.
