I was surprised to see what this CL72 sold for the recent Mecum auction.

It's really a late 1964. That has a 1965 cl77 front fender and sprocket & looks like a 1967 side stand. The red seems darker. But pretty! It's nice to see the market staying strong on these (:

Is this the one? I thought it was $16,000, I also believed it must have had some history to go for that amount.

Tim it doesn't even sound a genuine original from your description, your collection must be worth a fortune now :)

WOW!

I'll agree, later steel front fender, sprocket is the same on my '63 and it would have the 530 chain instead of the correct 520. I do have the correct setup for mine. You got the microscope out for the "bump" on the sidestand, don't think I would have caught that. :-)

I believe the auction bike should also have a red lens on the headlight bucket. But overall a very nice example.............I can only hope my pair of '63s turn out this nice.

Anyone interested in an early '64 project? It was a running bike before I tore it down. I believe I have every part and nut & bolt but all needs to be refinished.

I may have to schedule a trip to Las Vegas for next January to support my 'hobby'............
