1965 cl771965 cl77New here.....hi
Picked this up this weekend and this seems to be the place to be.. I've always liked these early ones and always kept a look out for one...I was going to look at an xt500 on sunday but I stumbled on this Saturday and it won me over....was a non runner .I was told it ran a few months back and now was being a pig to start and to rev any sense. . All it was was the carbs needed a good clean ....sort a poorly fitted plug cap and some nice fresh fuel....it does run sweet and sounds fantastic when you twist open the baffles The problem I had then was when you turned the lights on the engine died and in turn blew the fuse.... This seems a common fault and was just the po wiring up the instrument light wrong....you know the one With 2 greens coming from it... Mot hopefully this week All I need is a pair of mirrors and hope fully it's gonna be some fun... What I liked and why I did choose it was it seems most of the awkward parts are still present.... We all love pictures so here's a few
New projectWelcome Sproket,
Hopefully you'll find help in the time of need here on the forum. There are a bunch of swell guys and even one gal I believe, who will be very helpful to you. Have fun with your new project and don't hesitate to ask questions. On the kick starter side that big slotted screw looking thing is for the cam/lifter for the clutch. The bolt below it is the lock for the cam.
I believe you need to loosen the tension at the handle first. Then take up the slack at the cam adjustment and tighten the lock bolt. After that you do the fine adjustment at the handle. I am sure someone here knows the proper way to adjust it, be patient and I"m sure someone will chime in soon. BTW very nice looking bike.
