CL 77 RimsCL 77 RimsIs it best to re-chrome the original rims? Or are there reproduction rims available?
My rims are true and straight but there is some rust. My chrome plater wanted 3-400 to rechrome the original rims. Is this ball park?
CL77 RimsNo Re-Pops known of................I have had several sets of rims re-chromed with mixed success. Chrome is an electro-plating process and some of the shops have a difficult time getting the chrome to settle into the recesses on these wheels.......especially if they 'hang' the rims while they pass through the brine.
Some shops will do a good job of filling any pits or tool-marks with copper before they apply new chrome...............and some shops do not. Ask a lot of questions............and $150-$200 per rim is a good price..............but higher prices are known. I send everyone I know to Leonard's in St. Albans, WV. You can google them for contact info. Never had them to CL77 rims so ask Mark when you call and tell him about the recesses. His prices are excellent and so it is turn around time. Spring is his worst time as all the racers and hot rodders bring there big stuff in at the last minute and want it yesterday.
He does decorative plating, not show chrome (aka triple plating). Browns did show chrome and that drove the price. Original Honda chrome is decorative chrome, which is chrome plated directly onto the steel base metal. Tell him Rob from NY sent you. regards, Rob
