CL 72 Kickstarter woes
G-Man has the solution...........and my cracked units will get repaired. I found one unit with what appears to be a section of galvanized pipe driven onto the open end to keep it from spreading..........the spring was in-place and the section of pipe served as the clip...........I had to somewhat unwind the center of the spring to remove it. It seemed to work so will stay in my stash.

That's a pretty good fix. Keeping the open end closed would help keep that part working for quite a bit longer, I would think. There are some ingenious 'fixers' out there... :-) G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

Here is the knuckle fresh out of the plastic bag. No chrome plating here, just zinc. This is a close-up of the end of the slot where the fatigue cracks always start. Just look at that nasty 'v' notch where the spline breaks into the slope where the 'slitting saw' runs out at the end of the groove. The easy fix for this is just to put a nice round hole at the end of the slot to get rid of that stress raiser... Sharp cracks just keep growing in the fatigue world, while round ended ones stop in their tracks. G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72
