Ducati is cool but I'm looking for something a little more sedate. Checking out the Indian Scout within the hour. 50-pounds heavier than the Triumph Scrambler but with 100-hp. I'm insane.

William..........If your serious about acquiring a CL77...........I plan to have my latest 1966 restoration completed in late spring or early summer. The 1st pic is a bike I completed a few years ago and was sold to a collector in Florida. The 2nd pic is the bike on my bench with a major hold-up trying to get new seat foam. Any interest?

What have you done with the current projects motor? It looks like you are already committed to a red frame.

How would a work-in-progress arrangement work?

WR........I have completed 5 other CL77 and one CL72 builds. I've been collecting Scrambler parts since 1997. This current build is intended to be a 100-point restoration.......but the judges always find something to disagree on. The motor was a runner but now has new 2nd-over pistons / rings; a new cam-chain; lightly ground valve-seats; and replacement oil-seals / gaskets. All other components were checked for spec. An NOS stator and rectifier was installed along with the NOS wire-harness. I rebuilt the tail-light harness and the left switch/control harness with new silver sheathing.

The base-coat / clear-coat red paint is color-matched to the original. Same for the silver. The tank has no filler and is lined with Red-Kote to be compatible with ethanol-fuel. Replica badges and new pads are included. I have tried to replicate all of the vent tubes, including use of an original 'Y' pipe on the head breathers. All chrome is new except on the front fender stay. Its very nice with a small dimple but no rust or scratches.

The wheels were completely rebuilt with NOS rims, spokes, nipples, washers, polished hubs and brake-plates, and have trials-tread tires mounted with new tubes. The exhaust system includes a re-chromed original muffler. The mirrors are NOS units to fit the Scrambler models, not the units meant for the CB and CA models. The carbs are rebuilt and have NOS tubes and air-cleaner filters. All cables are new or NOS.

The bike is expected to run as expected with a dry-cell battery (either AGM or Lithium). The major item to be completed is the seat. I have the red pan, SS trim, and new cover. Still looking for foam but may try my own skills. I have more then a dozen seats to copy the correct shape. The price won't be cheap...........$8,000. But some things could be negotiable..........good used speedo instead of NOS.........snuff-r-nots in place of the muffler.....'bubble' instead of NOS grips.

A few of the other board-members are familiar with me including Emo and Bill Silver. Others may know me as the ebay seller of the reproduction exhaust-to-frame studs for these models. I must confess that I purchased a new 2014 Triumph Scrambler 900 yesterday morning. It was such a smoking deal I could not pass it up. It is unclear at this moment if I will continue with the Triumph or be back in the market for a CL77. Having owned and loved both the 305 Scrambler and 500 Daytona, the Triumph Scrambler seems a very attractive and very powerful offspring of the two (does haul ass).

In my opinion, the Triumph Scrambler 900 builds on the 305 Scrambler legacy and may be the massively engined '305' of our dreams.

Below is not my actual Triumph but it is the same in every way except I have a center stand, billet handlebar reservoir, and chrome cam covers (may be too flashy). The stock mirrors may get swapped out but will save so can restore bike to stock. (Delivered today and mods in 10-days).

Will continue to enjoy and contribute to this outstanding Honda305 group, but for the time being I'm not a red hot CL77 prospect.
