Cam chain

Post by smi481 » Sun Nov 02, 2014 10:40 am

We purchased a NOS cam chain from Silver parts
for our CL72.

The chain came in the original Honda packaging and was
not opened.

The chain does not have a master link in place, but
I see a master link is listed in the Honda Parts Guide and
many NOS ones are for sale on Ebay for around $9.

Why is the NOS chain I received solid ... without a Master link?

When installed, is it designed, to be hung around
the sprockets, without a master link?

Thanks for your help ....

Thanks for everyone who took at look at my question.

I guess i'm not the only one who doesn't have the answer!

Here is my guess.

The CA/CB/CL 72/77 use the same pitch and length cam chain as the CB/CL/SL350, the CB750 SOHC and the XL250. The difference was the 250/305 chain used a master link and the other later models did not. The part number for the continuous chain is 14401-410-003 and I am pretty sure that is the one DSS sells. The original part number for the chain with master link chain is 14401-259-000.

You remove a link by grinding the pins off or whatever way as to not damage the chain. You can either buy a master link or a press link [endless] to reconnect the chain. That should be the answer you are looking for.
