front fender and stay question

Post by nosfoursale » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:24 pm

Hello everyone:

I need some help trying to figure out if I have the correct fender and stay for my early 66 cl 77. the vin # on the bike is cl771033468. I purchased this bike as a basket case and I am going to first post pictures of the fender stay that it came with. Then I am going to post pictures of the fender I just purchased (the one I just purchased is the stay that I am questioning.) The fender and stay that came with the bike looks to be obviously cut and altered. The one that I just purchased look to be a little fishy. It looks to me that if the cut stay was in one piece then it would be the correct one. Also, has the fender with the altered stay been cut? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mitch

Based on your frame number your bike should have the type II forks with the alloy sliders that take the 6 hole front fender and fender brace and large hub TLS brake. The original bobbed fender and brace you have is for the type I forks with steel sliders used up to frame 1014495 . The complete 8 hole brace you have pictured is an aftermarket brace. That being said since you bought the bike as a basket case you may have a bitsa bike made up from different issue bikes.
