CL72 running problem

I adjusted the air screws and did get it to run much better. I even rode it around the block for the first time! It still idled a bit high and when I put the choke half way on, ran much better. I'm going to re-check my float hight - is there any need to pull the carbs off to do that or can I do it with them installed?

It might be float height - It might an obstruction in a main jet. First check each plug and see if they look the same. Lighter color plug indicates leaner mixture.

Remove the carbs. Remove float bowls - find an exact way to set them same. With the carb upside down let the floats rest on the needles - don't push on them. Note the position they are now. Are they both the same? If it is a lean condition the floats should now be set too low. Are they properly set or too low? The assumption at this point is they are too low. Set floats to the proper height or reset t hem a bit higher. Check main jets to make sure they are clear. This is not a task that can be easily done on the bike.

Yeah, I've pulled my floats with the carbs on the bike out of pure laziness and it was a mutha to get them back in.

Don't worry about a high idle. That's simply a slide stop adjustment.

It's been said before, but set the idle screws with the engine fully warmed up.

Bike looks very nice, by the way.
