New to forum and new Honda

Post by Impala » Thu Jul 26, 2012 8:41 am

So I aquired my new project. 1965 Honda CL77. The pics are not much but it is mostly complete. The rest is in boxes (suprise, suprise). Tank has a seam down the middle which I do no know is correct for this year. Has been sitting indoors for probablly 15 years. Engine has good compression and has fogging oil or something similar in it. Tires are even ok. Obviously needs work/assembly. It was $350 with a clear WI title so I figured I couldn't go wrong. I was suprised the exhaust is almost perfect with no rust.
My goal for this bike is not a factory perfect restoration at this point. This bike is on my bucket list and I want to ride it. My goal for now is to clean it up a bit, get it running, and ride it! Will probably make a few non factory/non permanant mods along the way.

Serial number are frame: CL77-1021262 and Engine CL77-1021490. Are those close enough to be factory?

What I know I need so far is:

Front fender. I don't care if its cut or not or chrome or painted. As long is it fits. Does a fender from any other bike fit?

Seat foam. I have the pan and cover but no foam. Could order a complete non factory seat but just need some ideas.

Air filters are shot from sitting. Anyone have experience with aftermarket pod setups?

I am going to get everything layed out and labeled and such this week. Here are a few pics.

looks like a good start.

RetroBikes has new air filters for $25 each.

The seat and fender are probably items your are going to have to watch ebay closely for. I might have a seat though.

Numbers show a 1966 issue (large brake issue)
Tank is from 1967 issue.
Other feller offered filter location.
They have other parts also.
I'm not aware of any AM seat being available. ........lm

Interesting with the 1966 part. It has a clear title as 1965. Good to know though when I am looking for a chain guard later and when I order new brake shoes.

There is no actual yeardate for bikes issued from 1965 to 67 so it is sort of a assumption that the large brake issue came along about 1966. No proof. The tank with the seam is a last issue style and that was 1967. ....................lm
