New member - probably OLD questionsNew member - probably OLD questionsHi guys. I'm new to the forum. I recently acquired a couple of old Honda motorcycles after my dad passed away. I am trying to find out what I have. I haven't been able to find a website that decodes the frame numbers very well. I thought someone might be able to help.
I have: CL72-4000658 CL450-1005282 Unfortunately, I don't have the titles, keys or anything. I am pretty sure I can get new titles, but it would be good to be able to tell them at least the year of the bikes. Also, can anyone tell me a good source for replacement parts? I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Brian
Re: New member - probably OLD questionsWelcome and thanks for giving your location.
The CL72 is a 1964 issue. Don't know about the 450. .............lm
I'll address the CL72.
Ya can get lots of info for this bike. Ya need parts books and any of the other manuals and a good one is the PDF from Bill Silver. Ya can get all the parts with patience and $$$$. .................lm
TitlesIf your bikes were titled at any time in the past, then your state DMV will have a "year" for each of them and a title already in their system. There should be someone(s) at your DMV that deals with titling isues. Call them and give them the frame numbers and they can tell you if either or both bikes are in their system. If so, you won't really need to do anything else except prove how you came to own them. Bill of Sale, probate of a will, etc.
If the bikes are not in the state DMV system, they can do a 50-state check to see if they are in another state's system. If they are, similar process after that. If they are not in any DMV system, you will help yourself and the DMV guy by providing Honda documentation to show the year of production. You should find what you need in a Honda Parts Manual or Shop Manual. Helping the guy at DMV will make your life easier. You might as well call them to get the process started so they can tell you what you need. I lucked out and my guy at DMV actually owns a CA77 that his father bought brand new.
