So I bought my first bike and I figured why not a 66 CL77 that has not been ridden since the late 70's. Probably not a great place to start. Some point in the 70's the previous owner tried to turn it into a bobber of sorts. Has a Harley Sportster tank, Z-bars, King Queen seat and straight pipes. It does not have any engine covers. The frame is in remarkable shape since it has been in a barn for 30 years. No rust, wheels are clean. Engine is free and shifts through the gears.
This being my first attempt at something like this, I need help. Just cleaned the carbs and am awaiting rebuild kit. Purchased Bill Silvers Restoration Guide. Bought a battery. I need a tank, and exhaust for sure. Since I am probably not restoring this to original show room condition, can a tank off a CB77 work? Also, can an electric starter be installed?
Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
1966 CL77 Possibly in over my head NOOBCB77 tank won't work, and the frame is in the way, so e-start won't fit. If you're not too worried about origionality, I recently saw a nice tank for sale for around $50, but the knee pad holders were removed. I'll try to find it agian, and send you the link. Pipes that have been shortened usually sell cheap on Ebay, may be a good way to go. I have some bars that are decent, not bent, but not really shiny either. Yours for postage. PM me if interested.

Your bike is sweet! Bikes like those from the hippie era are getting few and far between. It would be cool to leave it like it is and ride the crap out of it, probably would need some mufflers! I've bought bikes like that and to be honest, you may be better off keeping that one the way it is and finding a fairly original complete one to restore if you want one in original form. The seat, tank, and fenders are usually fairly expensive. Good luck nutt
