Newbie here with a new toy..info?Newbie here with a new toy..info?OK I hate to start off asking for help but like many other things I found this place out of necessity so here I am.
Names Bryon, I'm in Illinois about as far NE as you can get without being in Wisconsin or the lake. Any way I been riding for 20+ yrs been down hard once. first bike was an 81 Honda CB650 traded a car stereo for it. wrecked it, kinda fixed it sold it baught a little Honda Hawk rode it for a bit but wasn't in great shape never had time to work on it and then parked. HMMM wonder if it's still behind my sisters house??? Any way later in llife I bought a Brand new 02 Suzuki Volusia Still got it, love that bike. A few yrs back I picked up and old 68 Triumph 500 had a friend help me rake the frame, strutted it, and put an 8" over springer on the front, it's a blast. OK now to here while looking for parts and spare tank for my Triumph I came crossed a Honda 305 on CL for $150 locked motor about 60 miles away from me. after I got I got to thinking I paid $150 for it, gave a guy 20 bucks to borrow his truck and put 30 in the gas tank and about 4 hrs driving. I probably would have been better off finding one in better shape for $200 near me. OH well. Any way this little Honda doesn't have a title and the guy didn't know what year it was so if one of you can help me decode the numbers it would be great (CL77E-1031923) I am not sure which way I am going with this yet, I figure I'll try and get the engine loose before I start any big plans. I am thinking either a little old Bobber, kinda where it is now, or a little cafe style, heck maybe flat tracker style, or it could become and airplane I have no idea yet. Again any info, help, suggestions are all taken in stride and appriciated

Zion is not far from me. Welcome. So, we know you have a penchant for unusual customs and you now have a rusty mid sixties CL305 Street Scrambler which is apparently missing side covers mufflers and has the wrong tank and seat. Hopefully no one will get bent out of shape with your plans to customize it. Getting the motor freed up is a good place to start and after that it all comes down to how bad is it inside. Given the original style, it seems to me, and I admit to being biased, that the Street Tracker look would probably be the easiest and might be a good match to the lines of the bike. Low level TT pipes would work or two up the right side might also look hot. That tank would look good on another bike - that's a nice way of saying something.... Flat track XR750 style seat and teardrop tank would look cool, along with flat track bars would make for a cohesive clean look. Small battery under the seat hump and clean up the middle section and it could start to look good. But start as you suggested with a can or two of WD40/PBBlaster/Kroil/ATF-Acetone mix and get it turning over first. if it doesn't turn, it will be hard to strip...
First welcome to the forum and the madness. You will certainly find a lot of help here.
Next, someone can give you a year on the number you posted but it is an engine number. The frame vin is located on the steering tube between the bearing caps, left side. That will tell us when the bike was made. Also the wiring harness may have a tag with a year on it near the ignition switch. That will certainly tell ya when the harness was made. Thanks everybody for the welcome and the info, I will definitely use the search engine, I am a member of enough boards to know better than to ask a question with out at least trying to look first. HA funny thing is the tank is why I bought the bike. My Wassell on y Trump leaks a bit and I was looking for a replacement to paint up so I could preserve the old paintjob on the Trump. I am not a purist and have no attachment to this bike like I said I wanted the tank and maybe the seat and I figured it was a cheap project. If this bike is something that should be preserved because it is rare or anything let me know, I won't restore it,or put any real money in it, but I would make a deal to get it to some who would restore it rather than choppin it up like a dollar a dozen bike. how ever if it is Just another 305 that is already mostly beyond saving, I will cut it up. I just noticed that your new project bike already has both pipes making an exit on the right side - perfect of the flat track look. So you bought the tank and seat and they came with a rusty old Honda stuck to them. That's too funny. if you think you might want to cut it up, call me first...:-) PM sent.
