different style tank

Post by mike horvath » Wed Dec 30, 2009 8:19 pm

Hey guys,
Just wondering. As I look at pics of early Scramblers, I notice the gas tanks are smooth all around on the visible surfaces. My tank, a 66 CL77, looks as if it is a two piece tank with a seam that runs the length of the tank over the top. Maybe a different year or ? The P.O. said it was all original. Hmm.

MIKE post some real good photos of your bike & we can identify year for you & let you know of any obvious incorrect parts. Sounds like your tank is a 67 model

1067 CLs had the seam also I don't believe it had the gas outlet underneath on the left side.

different tank

Thanks guys...
And Happy New Year!
This is somewhat interesting this tank business. LOUD MOUSE did the frame and engine ID number check and reported my bike was issued with the smooth tank. I suppose the slightly tweeked handle bars might indicate an early age crash of some sort and hence the seamed tank. But there is something so naturally cool looking about the smooth tank...I WANT ONE! Just kidding (am i?), but if one ended up on my door step, I'd put it on as fast as I could.
Ride safe
Mike
