CL77 frame and engine number mis-match

Post by rpr851r » Tue Jul 07, 2009 10:53 am

Hello all,

I am a relative newbie. I have been reading the forum for a bit now and first I want to thank everyone for all the information posted here. I have a couple of project bikes that I am working on that I inherited from my brother. One is a CB77 that I am very close to getting to run right with the tuning tips from the site and the other is a basket case CL77.

I am wondering if the CL77 I have is a “matching” numbers bike. The frame # is CL77 10590XX and the engine is CL77E 10584XX. I have read that a few hundred difference between the two is generally acceptable to be called matching but I also thought I read here that more extreme mis-matches are not uncommon.
Thanks for the help,
Rich

frame and engine number

Hey Rich,
On my 66CL77 there is a difference of 35 between the frame and motor numbers. I understand that this is a normal thing with these early bikes, and even a wider separation is somewhat common.
Have fun with the "projects"
Mike
