New owner - some practical questions

Post by awineke » Mon Aug 11, 2008 2:48 pm

Proud new owner of a '67 CL. The previous owner posted a couple times on here (camit34), but he moved on to other projects and sold it to me for a price I'd blush to mention.

It's pretty, but nothing's original. Which is good, because I'm hoping to ride it quite a bit and I'd hate to trash a museum piece.

I'm wondering what compromises for functionality other owners have made. Is there a tail bag that looks halfway decent? Anyone added turn signals? I'm concerned about the thing getting stolen (that was never a problem with my previous bikes!). Do you use a wheel lock or something when you're out and about? The taillight doesn't come on with the headlight at night - it looks like that's how it's set up, is there a workaround for that?

Anything else that will help a 41-year-old bike work as a regular rider?

Check your bulb as they seem to blow out easily due to vibration. I've used 1157 Halogens that seem to hold up well. The heat doesn't seem too bad. Others will have their opions and this is mine and is worth what it cost, NADA. Charlie . Sorry about not being much of a "purist" but more of a "functionalist" (?)
