frame id

Post by big 12 » Wed May 28, 2008 2:23 pm

Hello. I am new here and have a question. I want to bulid a 1966 scrambler 305. I have found two frames but, I do not know how to ID the frame #'s. The first one is CL-1062949
The next one is CL-1066686. Also did Honda use the same frame for different years, or is every year different? Thank you.

Both are 1967. The early frames of the SCRAMBLER (CL72) were the same all years until 1964 when the swing arm at the shock mount was changed from the ball to the clevis mount then in 1965 the CL72 had the large brakes and the rear brake cable mount at the front was moved from a part on the swing arm bolt to the part welded to the frame same as all CL77 frames. The 1965 CL77 frame had the same front seat mount as all the CL72 bikes then sometime in 1966 (CL77-1033482) HONDA changed the front mount to a rubber sleeve sort of attachment. The 1967 frame will have a bracket/tab welded on the frame on the left side near the battery box that is for the turn flasher unit. ...................lm

Sure thing. HONDA shop and parts manuals are on eBay daily and Bill Silver offers a CD with info that can answer most questions. ............................lm
