1967 Fenders/Grab Bar

Post by Rubix » Sat Mar 09, 2024 7:01 pm

Hello all, restoring my 67 CL77, frame # 1049811 and need to get the rear grab bar and both fenders. I have seen those ones listed on eBay from Thailand, but I'm not sure if they're for late/early models and not entirely sure of the differences between them all other than the numbers being different. If anybody has any advice, that would be spectacular. I am entirely missing the rear grab bar, and both fenders are dented/broken beyond feasible repair.

Seen on eBay today:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... 8&_sacat=0

https://www.ebay.com/itm/134653517151?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/204396940759?

There are some lesser quality (dented and/or needs paint) fenders also listed, depending on what you're looking for.

Is there an easy way to tell if its and early or late model grab bar?

Not aware of any differences between early and later CL77 CL72 models.

Honda calls the part: PIPE, rear fender fitting. Part number: 80145-273-010

Actually there is quite a difference. The early pipe or grab bar has shorter tabs to secure to the fender. Also, the fender that corresponds to this early bar has built in screw threads the bar mounts into. The later version bar, #80145-273-670 has longer rear mounting tabs, and the fender was also changed to include a larger threadless mounting hole which incorporates a rubber grommet designed to dampen vibrations, and the grab bar is secured on the inside of the fender with a nut. The early bar and fender will not interchange with the later counterparts. I was working with Vintage Avenue in Thailand in an attempt to re-create the late version but technical issues got in the way.

Thanks for the clarification,

And the two versions are listed today on eBay:

A few months ago I had called and talked to the guy that used to run ohiocycle. The early model distance between the tabs where the fenders mounted was ~6 1/4" and the later model was 6 7/8" was the biggest way to tell the difference from what I gathered. Thank you for the additional info. This change happend at frame # CL77F-1033482, with and additional change for the tail light at frame CL77F-1043098 which changed to an 'oval' tail light (part # -272-)
