66 Scrambler 305 )GAS TANK!

Post by Jonas22 » Tue Apr 23, 2019 6:18 pm

HI, I just bought a 1966 Scrambler CL77 and I have a questions. My bike came with a fiberglass gas tank and I dont like it. I was wondering if other models or years of gas tank will fit mine. The original tanks are a bit pricey. Let me know if you have any knowledge on this subject. Thanks for reading. James

All CL72 & CL77 tanks will interchange..........but.......a '66 should not have the top 'seam' that came with the '67 models.

CL77 gaa tank

Post by Thumpermon » Fri May 17, 2019 8:10 pm

I have had a CL72 for several years and recently acquired a CL77 that is in great restored condition. I just removed the gas tank, and to my surprise, it does not have the crossover tube like the CL72. Has anyone heard of this type of gas tank?

Late '66 production that also introduced the welded-on muffler (short shield) and rubber pegs. The petcocks no longer had the extra tube...........same for '67.
