motor swap

Post by dreaming » Wed Jul 20, 2011 5:45 pm

Currently have a 63 ca72 that I got running and love the bike to death. However, I was a little disappointed that it couldn't hang with traffic on the highway. Meanwhile I ran into a cb77 that's bored out 50 over with new pistons and rings and supposedly runs good, but the rest of the bike is really rough. I was wondering if I could pull my 250 motor and replacew it with the cb77 motor. Do they fit? what mods would be needed? Or is it worth it? Thanks!

It will bolt right in. The two issues that come to mind are clearance for the carbs and air filters, and needing different coils and condenser, parts you should be able to pick from the CB. I believe someone on this site has done this before.

Hi,

You can walk that way, but it's easier to replace it for a CA77 engine.
But if you have access to a cheap CB77 engine, the choice is easy.
