CB72 Kick starter

Just fitted the kick starter mechanism to the engine during a rebuild of a CB72. am I correct in thinking the little ratchet device will be clicking away whenever the engine is running? can this be heard clicking once the engine is running? It seams like a very over engineered and complicated system, does it work well as it kicks forwards?

No.

When installed correctly, the shaft is rotated backwards toward a stop which is in the primary side of the crankcase. The stop lifts the kickstart pawl when the kickstater is in the rest position and stops the clicking.....

Thanks for info G-man, when I turn the engine by hand, I can hear the paw clicking, does this mean I have the kick starter set up incorrectly. Should the pawl be against the stop when the kick-starter is rested?, is there a set up procedure?

Just turn the shaft 'backwards' until it touches the stop. That should lift the pawl and stop the clicking.

The spring on the kickstart shaft should keep the shaft rotated against the stop when you are not using it.
