On the road again

Post by PhilD » Mon Mar 14, 2016 1:16 pm

Brilliant sunshine today so I couldn't resist going out for a ride to get some more running in miles on the clock. Had a great circular tour around Ilkley Moor. Here's a picture when we stopped for a cuppa at the Cow and Calf rocks.

Thanks, I'm rather wide so need a handlebar end mirror to see behind. Currently this is being repainted so I'm happy to use a 'lifesaver' which I think is good riding practice anyway.

PhilD, first, I have to compliment you on a nice photo of a very nice bike. Second, when I read your post I had no idea what a "lifesaver" was, but looked it up and found that it's a kind of blind spot mirror that I'd never seen before. It seems to be a good idea. Can you tell me how & where you mounted yours on your Superhawk?

Hi Seadog,
Over here a 'lifesaver' is the term for looking around over your shoulder before giving a signal or making a turn or other manouevre. It allows you to see make sure the road is clear and that some idiot isn't going to plough into you and it can therefore literally 'save your life'.

LOL. Well, that was silly of me, wasn't it. Thanks for the clarification.

This is the motorcycle mirror I thought you might be referring to:

Wow, that certainly gives a great wide angle view. I haven't seen anything like that before, do you have any other pictures? I too would be interested in how your 'lifesaver' would be mounted on a bike, might save a bit of neck ache.
