CB77 mirrors problem
CB77 mirrors problemI bought the mirrors below on ebay a few weeks ago. They are ebay item no. 201425345728. When I put them on my CB77, because of the way the 8 mm rods are bent, I can not adjust the mirrors downward enough to see vehicles and the road behind me. I could fix them by twisting the rods about 45 degrees, but this would destroy the chrome plating. I could rotate the mounts on the handlebars, but then the clutch and brake levers would be pointing upward at an unusable angle.
I sent a message to the seller, but have not received a reply. Anyone else had a similar experience? Anyone know of a fix? Phil Rockwell
Hi Phil, I've "twisted" about ten pairs of these without injury to the chrome. Clamp the bottom section vertically in a smooth jaw bench vise, including the lower bend. Hopefully you also have a smooth jaw machinists' vise that's not anchored to anything. Clamp that to the uppermost section (adjacent to the mirror) and the upper bend. Twist the machinists' vice smoothly, rotating the mirror downward, ending up with the upper section about 22-23 degrees from horizontal (approximate factory dimension). This puts the twist into the long central section. Some of these have been in use about a decade without any plating failures. Regards, Chase
+1. Just finished doing that to mine. I wrapped some tape around the areas held by the vise. No damage. I purchased a pair of mirror extenders for my CB77 similar to these in alloy and they did a great job and look smart.
