Hey All,
I purchased a 62' CB77 in poor to fair shape and it needs a ton of work! My simple question to all of you out there who have completely restored your 77's is, once restored, do they hit the marketed top speed of 100+mph? Or are they just too old at this point?
Thanks,
Matthew
Top Speed CB77
Ray Weissbrot sent me the following about his 1961 CB72 which ran in the 1961 IOM TT races.
As regards the state of tune of my bike when raced , in prodution racing in the 60s only a few mods could be made from standard. My bike had a ported & polished head ,11/1 pistons (hepolite) w & s valvesprings and racing tyres, but in the Island it was apparently timed at 106 mph through the speed trap at the highlander, with the fairing fitted & Fred flat on the tank!! Not bad for a 250 in 1961!!! I wonder what the speedo was indicating? The Honda is Number 43 in the pic. G

NO mate do not buy or think about 100 out of a STD CB 77. I have owned a CB72/CB77 back in the 60s and owen a CB77 now even if you see 100 on the clock it would be way out. They are lovely gems of bikes just enjoy all the people lusting after you bike, I have never gone out without some one saying how they wished they had one or kepted theres. Roll on summer.
