Another date needed

Post by Linden » Fri May 04, 2007 2:22 pm

I too, am trying to resurrect an old Honda. The engine number is CB77E-1033357. Is there any reference for finding the date of manufacture from this or the frame number? It seems to be about mid 60's and is pretty complete. Hasen't run in many years and needs lots of TLC.

Honda changed their numbering system at the start of the 1965 production run, so the first 1965 engine was E-1000001. Since, you have E-1033357, that means your engine was #33,357 off the line after the first 1965 engine. That would probably put you in 1966. You can verify by removing the gas tank and looking at the white ID band on the wiring harness that runs under the gas tank. It should have a date on it.

Good luck, and I highly recommend buying Bill Silver's repair guides available on this site. They were invaluable to me, a total beginner, when I rebuilt my Super Hawk 2 years ago. They contain much useful information you may not find elsewhere and will save you from having to redo a lot of work you did wrong the first time!
