Ok, early style meter, late style forks, turn signals like you'd see on later models(cb350), and the only D.R.F. I know of is German Air Rescue. And I don't think they taught it to fly. Perhaps a title research session is in order, although it may dead end at the border, judging by the metric speedo gauge!

Good point about the non-knurled background. I thought it looked kind of odd, I just couldn't figure out what it was. Man, this is driving me crazy!! I would be content thinking that it was sold to so some company who changed the numbers, but the Kilometers!!! And it is such an odd mix of parts. Why?!?!
Any more ideas would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

It seems no one at American Honda is able to answer the question, and I've asked my most knowledgeable contacts there. Where did you buy this bike, and did you get a title with it? If so, perhaps the numbers were altered by a thief. I'm not sure what your local municipality does with theft recoveries which have missing or altered numbers, but it is possible that they might issue titles with new numbers when they sell unclaimed bikes at auction. If you have a friend on the force, you might ask him to check the number to see if it has a history.
DRF=Dealer Replacement Frame? Possible wreck job? I don't know how they did it back then, but they're very picky about frame replacements now. Forms have to be filled out and signed in quadruplicate, and evereything must be just so. The part of the frame with the numbers has to be cut off as proof of destruction, and then you get a new frame with the same numbers as the first.

I agree with Pie Cutter. As I said earlier, I think the numbers on the frame look correct. Just the DRF looks weird. I have heard that dealers would supply blank cases and frames but don't remember if it was Honda and don't remember the particulars of how it was made legal. I think It was Honda engine cases without a VIN on ebay that I am tinking of- but they had the knurled part in the rectangle, just unstamped.

I've bought some real crappy screwed up bikes from tweakers and it is not out of the question that 'Duane Reginald Freeman' thought it would be cool if his bike vin started with his initials...

Thanks for the help everyone...my facination is starting to turn into concern. Here in California we do all of the title stuff through the Highway Patrol, I'll give them a call. The kilometers on the speedo still has me scratching my head.....DRF...."Dealer Replacement Frame?"......argh.....

I just had an "expert" inform me that replacement frames and motors sold by Honda were not stamped with any numbers. He thinks that this bike is either built from parts, or was a totalled biked that got a new frame and lower end. He thinks that the "DRF" was probably done by a dealer or owner. DRF might actually mean, "Dealer Replacement Frame"...it sounds reasonable. Since this bike is Kilometers, what ever happened to this bike probably was not done here in America......wierd....

Is it just me, or does that front fender look like it belongs on an early 450 (Black Bomber)?

Later on, Bill
