Just don't lay it on it's face.
Evaporates?. ............lm
G-Man wrote:That should help. You just need to make sure you don't get too much lube wicked into the speedo as it can discolor the face if it evaporates in hot weather.

This is a last resort before I bite the bullet and send it to a repair outfit...

That's kinda how I did mine Dianne.
I first put WD40 in that area, let it sit for a while, then a couple of cleanings with contact cleaner and a gentle compressed air stream.
After that I did what you are doing.
Started with a non-functional speedo and a completely erratic tach. Now they are both working perfectly.

Well, I left it in the oil for just over 24 hours. It's now sitting upright (on, no - not going to lay it down!) on a towel to drain out excess. Later this morning/afternoon I'll put it back in the bike and cross my fingers!

Yep - all oils are made up of different 'fractions' that's how they are separated in the production process.

The brown discoloration on the faces of speedos is largely evaporated and re-condensed lube.....

You'll have a nice smooth action, hopefully.

Or sun burned paint.
Or oil for being left with the face down. .............lm

Sara

Just watched your video. That's really neat. Are you using a GoPro, or something else?

How do you mount (or carry) it?

A little bit about it. The speedometer isn't working! It was yesterday, not today. I checked the cable after the ride, and it's fine. So, the problem is likely the gage. I'm going to have to pull the unit out and send it to Foreign Speedo, I guess. That's something I didn't want to do. But, it has to work, and I really don't feel like ripping into that gage cluster again.

I'll take the bike out for a longer ride, perhaps this evening.

Enjoy!
