'64 CB77 Superhawk in white. True barn find had not run since 1981. Missing nothing!
My first mistake was thinking a new battery could survive our tough winters. It died, probably froze and had to be replaced. Is it better to "battery tend" or just remove and put inside?
New battery in and the old girl started right up. I was so pleasantly surprised how stout the engine sounded (the baffles are gone). What a great bike! It's not registered and I don't have a license yet (40 years on dirt bikes) so my trips are limited to some private roads and quiet roads around the house. Everything is working! I spent time with the sticky carb slides last year and thought they were sill sticking when hot when I put it away last year. It seems to have fixed itself as I've had it up to temp several times and it's returning to idle perfectly.
I think my next project(s) is going to be to keep cleaning and servicing of which I have a lot to do from tires and filters to cables lubed and maybe brake shoes. One thing I saw here and liked was the addition of a small voltage readout. There's a small chrome-cased one on eBay that looks nice. I don't have a real handle on the ins and outs of the charging system. Seeing the voltage under all the different conditions (lights on, lights off, lights on with hi/low off) seems like a good way to learn. I want to make sure everything is working.
Thank you all! I'm having so much fun with this bike and it's been very rewarding bringing it back. I hope to get my license this summer but there's no hurry. C.
