305 Super Hawk VIN - made when?305 Super Hawk VIN - made when?I've recently picked up a fairly good condition 305 Super Hawk.. vin CB77-1047802. The tach and speedo needles work in opposite directions (early gauge??); the frame, tank, side covers.. everything.. are white, and it appears the white paint is original, looking at the areas where paint has been scratched down to the metal. The seat is bolted to the rear top frame rails, and slides forward onto two mounting pegs, just behind the tank. Sooo.. does anyone have info on the year this bike was manufactured?
The bike runs quite well, and has not been molested... trans is operational, clutch, lights... everything functions amazingly well, considering the bike had been stored since 1994. Fortunately the previous owner had the good sense to drain the tank and carbs, so both are near perfect internally. I pulled the battery out of one of my Z-1's, slipped it into the battery compartment on the 305, poured in a half gallon of gas... and that Super Hawk started up on the 3rd kick !! Anyway, if someone knows the manufacture date, I'd sure appreciate the information. thanks ! Bill
305 manufacture datethanks for giving me a date range. I wasnt sure, as my Honda Model ID book only shows the beginning Frame number, from 1961, and then says the model was in production from 61 thru 68.
At first I thought this might be a 'police bike' version, being that it was white in color. However, I've now found, on line, several photos of other Superhawks (with the full length seat, and short rear fender... as opposed to the short seat and long rear fender of the Police bike), which were obviously manufactured in the normal production run, only in White... a color not listed in the Model ID guide. Along with the bike I received a registration document from Florida, dated 1993, which says the date of manufacture was 1968, however, I realize that often such information on titles and registration documents is only the date the vehicle might have first been registered in any given state. Again, thanks for responding. Your information gives me a range to work with during restoration. take care Bill
You really want the parts manual and Bill Silver's book on restoration. These will tell you exactly which part numbers go with which frame or engine serial numbers as the model evolved over time. In November I bought a couple of parts that don't fit my bike, not having received the book, and I'll have to re-Ebay them.
The parts manual is available as a free download, but I forgot where I sourced it. I think I found the link in a thread on this board, so searching here may reveal it for you. 305 manufacture dateThanks again for the info. I've had other enthusiasts recommend contacting Bill Silver, or checking his books for the manufacture date.
Looks like I need to do that. take care Bill
