New member introduction: CB77Hi all, my name is Bob and I live in Warren, Rhode Island. Today I bought a bunch of pieces that when restored and rebuilt will be a 1968 CB77. The bike had been in this condition for the past 10 years when the PO dismantled it as the first step in an aborted restoration. I'm hoping to do a complete restoration and have a mint-condition bike by Spring. I have never done a project like this before. I promise to use the Search function as far as possible before asking dumb questions.
No pics yet, as I still have to get a digital camera. My main ride is a 1985 V65 Sabre. The CB will be used mostly for around-town errands and other trips that don't fit the long-legged pace of the Sabre, as well as vintage events. Welcome Bob. You've got some fun times ahead of you with your restoration! This board has a lot of good bits of information that just weren't organized in one spot 20-25 years ago. I guess what I mean by that is that today it seems a lot easier to find the parts and information needed to put one of these together again without too much trouble.

Thanks, guys. This week I'm giving to making an inventory of all the parts I bought - the biggest disadvantage of not buying an intact bike. Once I know what I have I'll start tearing down the carbs and engine - while it does turn, you can feel the parts struggle through the goopy mess of 10-year old oil and gas varnish.
I'm keeping a complete log and hope to be able to put up a FAQ on restoration as I encounter problems and have questions. Here's a meta-question: Where is the best place to post questions about restoration - here, the restoration log section, or on the mailing list?
Bob,
It would be great to see another restoration thread in the restoration section, but I think you get a more immediate response from posting specific questions in the appropriate section. You could always post your questions in their applicable sections then post the process and results in the resto section. Glad to have you aboard! Matt
Also into Alfa Romeo Giuliettas and Giulias! Looking for a Giulia Super. Bob, I found the Motor Rebuild and Restoration guides by Bill Silver extremely helpful when I recently rebuilt my CP77 as a total beginner. They will answer a lot of questions for you without having to wait for someone to reply in a forum, and will alert you to many little things you need to know about in advance. They were so helpful to me that I recommend them to all first-time rebuilders. They're available in the Marketplace section of this website, under "Featured Literature."
Good luck, Jesse
