Baffle removal

Post by Glenn-N » Sun Oct 27, 2024 2:43 pm

Hi,

I have a 1964 CB72 and want to remove to baffles to make it at little louder and compare sound.
It seems the baffles got stuck over the past years, any advice on how to remove them?

Removing the rear damper from the front pipe and knocking them out the other way maybe?

It is usually not a good idea to knock out baffles. The sheet metal in the silencers are fairly thin and may be bent. That causes the baffles to get stuck really hard.

Do you have a picture how it looks?

I agree with tore and add that if you really want to remove the diffuser treat it like any other rust seized part. Use penetrating oil and heat, being careful of the chrome of course.

If you do get them out you will find that the carbs will notice. You may have to readjust the idle screw, move the needle up a notch and/or increase the size of the main jet.
