How much slack, starter motor chain

Post by tom1104 » Wed Jul 17, 2024 4:31 pm

Hello all,
Whats the standard chain slack for the starter motor chain on a CB77. Mine seems to be extremely loose, it touches the casing on the bottom and has about 2cm of movement. Makes quite a noise when starting the bike
Thanks

There is no standard in the service manual but your description tells me that it needs replacement. Sadly these chains get neglected, even though they are easily accessible, because they aren't part of the normal maintenance routine.

Even after changing my chain it seemed too loose so I put a shim under the starter motor using some very thin sheet aluminium.
