Ignition switch key question

Post by bpdinse » Thu Feb 17, 2011 6:29 pm

I just got a '67 CA77 recently and it has no key to it. The ignition switch has "1645" on it. There is no "T" or other letter in front of it and there is no room for one either (it is clearly stamped/engraved as 1645 only). I looked at the back of the switch and see that it looks just like the other two ignition switches I have on my other CA77s. I assume it is the original. The other CA77s have a T series number on the ignition switch. Can anyone help with where to get a key for this switch? All my searches turn up a "T" series key for the 305 only. I can't find any more info here in the forums or in the guides I have. Could it be that a T1645 key would work in an ignition with just a 1645 number? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Brian

Brian, I had one like that a while back.No letter, just numbers. I took it to the oldest locksmith around, and he made me a key for it for about 30 bucks. If you have some keys around, see if they'll at least slide all of the way in.

Thanks, Davo! I will do that. I have the couple keys anyway from the other two bikes. I was going to just replace the ignition switch but someone went to town inside/behind the headlight soldering everything together with heatshrink and all - probably when they integrated a set of turn signals. I hate to cut all of that out. One way or another it looks like I will have to though. -Brian
