Why are ignition coils so ugly?

Post by Rusty Bikes » Sun Mar 04, 2007 12:14 pm

Because they stick them up under the gas tank and you never see them thats why.

I'm not building a stocker, it's a chopper so this does not apply to the purist.

I want to look at my coils, maybe a old set of automotive coils with polished aluminium or brass cases.

Bolt those suckers to the frame below the seat, where my tool box used to live.

Any reason why technically this is a bad idea?

In other words, can it work?

i'm sure you could use other coils , as long as they were the correct voltage and had about the same resistance...check your old ones with an ohmeter. you can get ballast ressisters at Napa if needed

aftermarket coils are available in chrome , and you can also get finned aluminum covers

How about this HD coil, for under $50 on ebay.
