Update: new plugs and both sides are firing. After 5 minutes bike stalled and both plugs are black and sooty. Does this mean I'm running rich? Suggestions on correcting this problem? Cleaned plugs and started right up, adjusted air screw 1 1/8 and idle screw until a good idle sound. Revved engine and it idle high for about 1 minute and returned to idle. Rode it around the block and it again revved high while stopped, and the plugs were fouled when I got it back to my garage. I did spray starter fluid at the Carburetor Intake Spacer but it did not increase the revs so I'm guessing no air leaks. Carb screw adjustment? Float adjustment?, Timing? ????

Too rich.
Open air screw at least 1 1/2 out.
Float set at 26 mm from carb body when float valve tit just touches float tang with carb body angled
What clip position..2nd from top or bottom?

M; OK you are firing. you are also running rich. needle clip position (play with it), Idle air to a lesser extent. you also have a throttle cable hanging up, get some slack in it at the adjustment, (carb top, throttle grip, or mid cable adjusters (varies)). you should have about 1/8 turn slack on the throttle grip.
remember that it is very difficult to really clean fuel fouled plugs. OXY acytelene torch or sandblasting is good. don't try to diagnose carb problems with dirty plugs.
Good luck

I'd increase the float height to 28mm or so (lower the level of fuel in the bowl). You can also run D6HA plugs (hotter) if you're not already...

I took the carb off and the needle is set at the middle or 3rd slot from the top. Should I move the needle up or down looking from the top of the needle? When measuring float height should I hold the float and measure the distance just as the tang hits the tit or let the float sit on the tit causing it to depress and measure? If the holding method is correct I have it set at 27mm. I'm running D8HA do you think it will make a difference running D6HA (FYI: that's what was in the bike when I first got it). Throttle grip does have 1/8 in. slack. Should I still open the points gap even though both sides are firing now? Will put it all back together tomorrow and give an update. Thanks

set the float while float tang is just touching, but not depressing the tit

make sure it is not hanging up on the bowl gasket

needle should be ok in middle slot, but you could lower (move clip up) it one notch if necessary.

main jet 120, slow jet 35? needle #22401?

stock points clearance .012-.014" should be ok (remember to re-set timing after re-setting point gap)

air filter dirty?

Adjusted float height to 27mm, jets are 120, 35, and the needle is 22401, points clearance is .014, left needle in 3rd slot. Started engine and it revved high and remained revving high with no changes in idle when in turned the idle screw. Is the slide in wrong? How should it go in?, what is the correct position for the carb intake spacer (notch down & out)?
