Hello--
I recently acquired a '67 CB77. It was running fine. Then, I installed rear blinkers. Shortly after that, my headlight quit working. Then my electric starter was acting funny (it would only work if it had been sitting for a good 8 hours or so). So, I checked the charge on the battery and it was in the 30 percentile. I replaced the battery and for about 24 hours everything was working great. The bike was starting right up. I took it out for a ride this morning and it died on me (in 2nd gear as I was slowing down, just like it did the first time it died on me). NOW, the bike will not only not start but the lights won't come on. I am confused by this. I am not sure if this could be a short-circuit somewhere in the wiring, a blown fuse or what. (PS where are the fuses?).
Has anybody had a problem like this? If so, how did you fix it?
OK -- I found the fuse and its blown. There is no clouding on the fuse window but the metal is severed. I am going to replace the fuse. However, I am wondering what might have caused the fuse to blow.
Thank you very much!
Brand new battery -- lights won't even come on!hyergin,
Do you have a wiring diagram? Did you install just the rear blinkers, not the front? And how shortly after that did the headlight quit working? Did you figure out why the headlight quit working? And did you figure out why the engine died on you the first time? These are lots of questions but your post suggests a number of symptoms all stacked on top of each other, and I'm not sure whether you were able to really get familiar with the wiring before you added the rear blinkers. I don't mind trying to help you with this but, as with all electrics, it will be a careful process of elimination. If you don't have a wiring diagram, search this site for one. Wilf From the symptoms described so far, that sounds like the battery is going flat. It may be because teh alternator is not charging or the rectifier is dead or a broken wire, or short circuit etc.
In other words work your way through all teh connections and wires and then start trouble shooting. Is it charging? With everything turned off, does teh abttery still show it's dishraging? That's easy to detect qand may indicat a short or a dead diode in therectifier. It could be the blinkers miss wired but that could also be coincidental. Check it logically. fuse and turn signalwell, I swapped the fuse for a new one. Took it for a spin and running great. AND THEN...I switched on my right turn signal and wouldn't you know...the bike died, completely. The fuse is blown again. So, of course it seems as though there is a short in my turn signal wiring. I will chase that short and conquer it!!
