Sparking points, failing condenser?

Post by fallingpines305 » Sat Jun 21, 2008 5:38 pm

I was checking the timing on my CB today and noticed that one of the 2 sets of points was sparking quite a bit, but not the other. Is this a sign of a bad condenser?

F.P. Yes that is likely, BUT it could be burned points, shorted coil, faulty wiring(either shorted or loose/disconnected). I think I would look at the points first, make sure they were OK. Then check the wiring making sure its looking good, then test the condenser, then the coil. You'll find it.Good luck! Kustommusic

Fold some 600 grit black wet or dry sand paper and with the points completely closed pull it through the closed points a couple of times then get a good clean business card and pull
it through the points. You should find that the cylinder runs a lot better and the points spark is gone. (DIRTY POINTS SPARK). .....................LM
