Eventually, I will want to remove the OEM (grey) paint on my '67 CL77 tank. I AM NOT a paint and body person (no patience), but have rattled canned the s/m on my old CL back in the '60s and it turned out decent. That one I just took the gloss off the paint, sprayed it, rubbed it out a couple of times and it turned out nice.
The bike I have now has pretty decent paint on the side covers, but the tank has a few places where one of the previous owners got something on it that left streaks where the paint has been eaten into. Think it best I strip this one down to bare metal and redo it.
The question is, what has the collective found to be the best paint remover to take off the OEM paint on these bikes? I'm in no big rush, so have plenty of time to get it to the point I (or someone) can start re-painting it.

Most of the reports I've read don't give it very high marks, however, not sure what they were using it on either. May work just fine on older Japanese bike paint. Re: CL77 OEM Paint removalIt looks like a methylene chloride based stripper. There are multiple brands but in my experience they are all the same and work well on these baked-on factory finishes.
My local hardware store also sells a water based stripper which is not fast but it is effective if left overnight. More than one application may be needed. The nice thing is that I can use it in the house and it isn't hard on the skin. I don't know who makes this product or how widely available it is but my guess is that it isn't limited to the local chain of stores.
