Disassemble speedometer gear assembly
Disassemble speedometer gear assemblyThe speedometer gear assembly on my CB77 is a bit 'crunchy' when I turn it by hand suggesting that there is some grit in it. Has anyone taken one apart to clean? There's a small brass screw on the underside of it but I can't remove it.
Thanks
SpeedoHi Tim, I think G-man has. I had some issues with my speedo and erratic needle movements but that’s not your issue. Hopefully someone else will offer a resolution.
Lm, recommended lubrication in my case which worked very well! Thanks 67' CB77
66’ CB77 65’ bomber 68’ hellcat I have never gotten that tiny brass screw to thread out. It's a problem detail when refinishing. drill and heat will get the drive out, but then when you put it back together, It's hard to make it look right. soaking , scrubbing, and air will get the grit out (maybe the best solution)
Good luck Randy Re: Disassemble speedometer gear assemblyThose little screws are generally made of brass and, as usual, an oddball size. I took a couple of drives apart and the screws came out of one OK but I had to drill the others out.
I re-threaded the holes for an ISO size and used stainless-steel grubscrews. To get teh brass screws out you need a reall good fitting screwdriver to avoid breaking them. G
