Just a quick one here on a CB77 or CB72 should the Engine and Frame numbers match up.
Another quick one (I like quick one's) what year is best to go for for CB77 as regard getting parts for it or do's it not matter. Im looking for a std bike I know the silencers (mufflers) are unobtainable.
I have restored many motorcycles over the last 50 years so I know how to spot say a loose swinging arm or steeering head bearing and a generally bad looked after bike the biggest giveway for me is a badly maintained rear chain, so for my last quick one is there anything I should be running a mile from if im looking over and listning to a CB77 or 72.

Numbers can be off by up to 200-300. I have seen one bike with matching numbers but that is the exception and often a cause for concern as it might be an attempt to make a bike look genuine when it isn't..... After '62 they are pretty much all the same although alloy fork lowers and different seats come in along with chrome mudguards in the later years. David Silver is looking at producing some replica silencers (mufflers) and replicas are available from a couple of other suppliers. A noisy crankshaft is probably the biggest concern as the big ends are integral with the inner crank webs and difficult or impossible to re-condition without unobtainable parts. I have a pair of cb77 mufflers that I'm going to put on eBay. No headers, just the silencers. I would rate them as an 8.5 out of 10. Very few small dimples, no rust, and the chrome should clean up nicely.
I have been dragging my feet on listing them, because I can't get an accurate gauge and what a fair asking price is.
