Starter gear knock/pinStarter gear knock/pinSeem to be missing a part. It's motor came to me in pieces. I have a 64 CA77. Trying to finish the engine up. I believe Iam missing pin or knock for the starting gear thats on the crank. There's a hole for one on the crank and the inside of the starter gear is a spiral track. Gear has to hook on something. But for the life of me I can't find it in the parts diagrams. Help! Got a part number or were to find it on diagrams. Thanks
No pin for the starter sprocket. The hole is a lube hole for the bushing in the sprocket. Normally the sprocket is sitting still while the crankshaft turns. What locks it to the crankshaft when the starter turns is a set of rollers against the flange on the outside of the sprocket which are held down by light springs in small plungers. When the engine gets enough speed centrifugal force, pushes the rollers away from the sprocket.
The springs do break and/or get weak and keep the starter from engaging the the crankshaft. 63 CA78
