Short report on new Dunlop K70 tires

Post by Snakeoil » Thu Jan 13, 2011 9:17 pm

I bought new K70 Dunlops for my CL77 and finally was able to mount them tonight. Before I did, I put my newly laced and trued wheels in my balancer without the tires to see where the heavy spot was on the wheels and how much they were out of balance. When I mounted the tires, in both cases, front and rear, the heavy spot was exactly in the same place as when I checked the wheels alone. This tells me that those Dunlops are just about perfectly balanced. The front is going to need about an ounce and the rear a half ounce to balance them. Front is a 3.25-19 and rear is a 3.50-19.

This is quite a change from the IRC and other Asian brands that are out there today. I had to put half a boat anchor on the two skinny little IRC tires I mounted on my S90 last spring.

These Dunlops are made in Japan, by the way.

regards,
Rob

Rob

Good news. I've just bought a pair for my CL77. They look nice on these bikes and should stick to the road properly.

Dunlops

Rob & G, I've had a pair on my CL for a year and they work excellent. My installer was able to rotate the tires enough to eliminate all of the balance weights on my rims(spokes actually). I've thrown this thing into some corners that were pretty scary. They work well in the wet also..........................D

Tires

Post by svm1223 » Fri Jan 14, 2011 3:24 pm

Does anyone know of whitewall tires for the CA77? I found one pair on ebay but the guy wants $200 a piece. The original tires had a small whitewall stripe, I would like to find a pair of tires like that.

Welcome to the forum.

If you add your location you will get more responders, and you might find there are some members close to you.

You won't find any newly manufactured narrow w/w tires being made in the correct size.

You don't need to spend $200 on the only wide W/W version either, as they are available for less.

Do a search for whitewalls and you will find some more info on availability.

Rob,
Post a few pics of the bike with the new shoes. I currently have Bridgestone 90/90, 110/90 spitfire line and I really don't care for the look. I want to get a tire that looks like it belongs and enhances the scrambler image.

Thanks,
Mike

Okay Mike. I hope to mount the wheels back on the bike this weekend. But it all depends if I can get the temp in the shop warm enough so the tools don't stick to my hands.

I think the tires look great mounted on the wheels. I did not expect anyone to want pictures of the tires. But I'm going to balance them tomorrow and can shoot a few pics and post them here.

The 3.25 is about the max size I'd put on that WM1 rim. You can see the excessive radius made by the sidewall coming out of the rim. That tire really wants a WM2 rim under it. If I ever end up lacing up new shouldered aluminum rims, I'll put a WM2 on the front for sure.

regards,
Rob
