Front Wheel Disassembly?

Post by motophysics » Tue Jul 05, 2005 4:29 pm

I am a total newbie and am in the process of taking a '67 cl77 to the bone for refurb and rebuild. 1st question; what is the procedure for removing the axle/brake assembles from the hub? 2nd question; where can I find new spokes?
Thanks

Welcom to the forum Moto. I bought some spokes from apexcycle@hotmail.com at one time, don't know if they still have them. Do you have a shop manual for your bike? That is a big help,I recomend it. To remove the front wheel you: remove cotter pin from axle, remove axle nut, loosen(4) bolts at the bottom of forks, remove support bracket (from wheel hub to fork leg)slide axle out, move wheel out far enough to remove brake cable,or you may do this before you remove wheel, the brake plate will seperate from the hub assy. with no other tools. Well try that and see if it works for you, that is how I do it on my cb77 any way. Good Luck, Steve Greer
you'll also need something to jack up the thing so you can get the tire off also. i used a car's jack and then sat some pait cans under the exaust brackts. this seamed to work great.

Any wheelsmith should have a line on some good spokes. I just bought some NOS C77 rims and had a local wheel guy relace them with #8 spokes. If you don't have any luck you can contact him @ Wheelmaster (253-927-0271).
