Plating spindles etc

Post by toastyhamster » Sat Oct 04, 2008 6:06 am

I was going to get the brake actuators and a few other bits nickel plated, anybody else done this and does it cause problems with spindle clearance? I guess they might polish up but they're steel so not sure of the options.

Why nickel, Toast? Chrome's the order of the day. Just seems an odd choice; unless I've missed something....

I guess I was looking for something more original and the spindles won't have been chromed from the factory? I guess people have chromed them ok then?
I'm on about the parts that go through the hub, not the chrome linkages on the outside.

Ah, axles. I was thinking linkages.

Chrome, bro'; every one I see are all chrome. And the nuts.

No not the axles either! The bits the brake levers slide onto, that go through the hub and actual rotate against the brake shoe pushing it against the drum, they're like a weird bolt but with a spindle end instead of a thread.

They were zinc plated when issued and I have mine cad plated cause they won't rust again. .................lm

Thanks, I was wondering if plating the splindles could have caused fitting problems, given that every single thing on this bike is refusing to go together easily it wouldn't have surprised me.
