Helmets

Post by SkykingC310 » Sun Apr 15, 2007 10:08 am

I really like the look of Davida helmets, but since they're manufactured in the UK, is it wrong to wear one while riding a vintage japanese motorcycle? What are your favorite helmets?

Skyking, Its a good question ! Should I go retro while on my CB77 (I have an old Grant helmet) or should I go the safe route? I have two other helmets, one a shorty I like to wear when riding my crusier and one full face I wear when in the race car. I like my old Grant on the CB77 I guess. Steve Greer

I must confess, even though I regularly lecture customers on the wearing of current D.O.T. and preferably SNELL rated helmets, I can't resist the urge to go "period" on the CB77. This is my old BELL, which I had to restore the interior on, and of course paint to my liking. It will sport the old "HM" wing logo on each side when I get around to it. A set of "6 Day" goggles completes the look.
I'm no going to try and justify it by saying that I somehow ride that bike in a fashion that is less prone to mishap, anyone who makes such claims is only fooling themselves. The fact is that when you get on any bike you enter into an unwritten agreement with the universe as a whole that you are taking your own chances, so don't get sue crazy if you get hurt. (I'm working with an investigator right now on a case where a guy got hit by a left turning vehicle and is trying to sue the owner of the nearest telephone pole for the loss of his leg! Go figure. The average auto coverage is only good for a couple hundred thousand, but the telephone company.....) I don't want to hijack this thread and turn it into a sermon on frivolous lawsuits, I'm just saying wear what you will but be aware of the consequences. Many of the Davida helmets look cool but are not certified. So do us all a favor and tell your next of kin that you are aware and responsible for your own actions and save us all from pointless litigation and higher Insurance and tax rates.
Oh well, I guess I just freed my wife and kid from the burden of sudden wealth.
