Dream Rear Fender

Post by conbs » Tue May 27, 2014 3:42 pm

You can take a rear fender from any CA78 frame and it will have the same holes for the "luggage supports". CA77 have different holes.

LM is right (as always). You will be in for no small task. Take EVERYTHING apart on the rear fender, including the sheet metal under the fender that the bolts for the luggage support goes through. IIRC those spot welds might be a little bigger than a normal spot weld cutter.

Best wishes on your project.

CA77 305 frame changes ?

Post by canuckada » Sun Jun 01, 2014 12:30 am

Oh Oh - trouble in paradise....
Fearing I might lose out on the OEM fender piece suggested in the previous post, I purchased it. I picked up the bike in Vancouver today only to find out that it is in fact a C78. The serial number (the correct one) is C78-1000136. Does this mean that the fender extension won't work on this bike? Also, Hoosier Tom indicated that the seat, tank and fender braces were incorrect - when I thought it was a CA77. If this is indeed a C78, are those pieces correct for that bike?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have. Cheers!

It looks like your bike is a 1965 by the numbers. Your fender extension should be ok and you have the right tank, seat and fender braces. What I said about the tank, seat and extensions was that they were not right for a 1961.

C, where are you at? Canada I presume. I have some scrap frames and also some rear sections. this would make sense if you are out west. I am 30 min south of Vancouver.
Good luck

Randy,

Thank you kindly for the offer. I purchased the fender piece and it is winging its way to me soon. I will however keep you in mind as I often head south for visits to your wonderful state. I am actually over in Victoria, so I am probably to the west of you. Thank you for the offer. Cheers!

Tom,

My apologies if I appeared to question your advice. I am an utter greenhorn at this and I truly appreciate the wisdom and experience of those such as you who are helping me muddle my way through. I do appreciate your kind and timely advice. What I thought I had didn't appear to be the case once I was able to take receipt of the bike. Again my apologies of I appeared unappreciative. It was never my intent to do so. Cheers!
