Speedo Drive Unit

Post by Vince Lupo » Mon May 09, 2005 7:55 am

I've been having trouble with the speedo drive unit on the front wheel of my '66 SuperHawk. It moves around and eventually puts a lovely kink in my speedo cable. I've tightened the axle nut as much as I can without breaking something, and it seems to hold for a while, yet it eventually turns clockwise and then my speedo stops working. There is a Philips head screw located on the side of the speedo drive unit, but that seems to be either an inspection or lube hole, and not a lock bolt. Is this thing supposed to be stationary and, if so, is tightening the front axle bolt the only way to get it to stay put??? HELP!
